Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia has picked up La Liga’s save of the month award for January, beating off competition from Odysseas Vlachodimos and Álex Remiro.
The stopper’s save from Pere Milla in the derby win over Espanyol has finished top of the pile, ensuring he picks up the award for the second time this season already.
Garcia earned rave reviews for his performance against Espanyol, with manager Hansi Flick making sure to thank his goalkeeper after the win.
Let’s have a look at the save again.
Garcia has kept eight clean sheets in 15 La Liga games for Barcelona this season, conceding just 11 goals along the way.
He’s been described as the “best goalkeeper in the world” this week by president Joan Laporta, and there’s no doubt he’s impressed since swapping Espanyol for Barcelona.
Garcia has also spoken about his time at Barcelona, admitting “a lot has changed” after switching clubs and picking up his first title at the Spanish Super Cup. He’s now hoping for more silverware this season, with Barca still alive in La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.
“The goal is to keep winning titles, after achieving the first one we could,” he added. “We are still alive in all the others and I want to really enjoy the day to day. That is what will take us to success.”
