The Steelers are wasting absolutely no time in their search to fill their vacant head coaching position. Almost exactly 24 hours after Mike Tomlin stepped down as the head coach of the team after 19 seasons,
Pittsburgh requested to interview Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula.
The news broke just minutes after it was announced that the Steelers also requested to interview Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase.
Shula is the grandson of all-time great NFL coach Don Shula. The 39-year-old is in his second season as the Rams defensive coordinator and has been an enormous part of the Rams defensive success after Aaron Donald’s retirement.
It’s safe to say that nobody has done more with less than Shula over the last two years. Steelers fans should be excited at the prospect of what Shula could potentially do with T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, and Nick Herbig at his disposal.
Interestingly, it was reported at the beginning of January that the Steelers were interested in bringing Shula in as their next head coach, should Tomlin decide to walk away. Now that Tomlin walking away has become a reality, it’s no surprise to see that the Steelers are doing their homework on one of the best up-and-coming defensive minds in the NFL.
