After a demoralizing loss in Week 1, the Dallas Cowboys needed a bounce-back performance on Sunday against the Washington Commanders. Despite this matchup only being the second of the year for the teams, it truly felt like a must-win for both sides.
Thankfully for the Cowboys, they came out and looked like the better team from the jump, leading to a 37-20 victory. While Dallas’ defense did show some marginal improvements, their offense was the star of the show.
A few players on the offense put together
performances that stood out, but none were more impressive than quarterback Dak Prescott. Dallas’ signal-caller played one of the most productive games of his career, earning him the Week 2game ball award.
On the day, Prescott completed 26 of 31 passes for 279 passing yards and four touchdowns. The 33-year-old was in complete control from the opening snap, recording a remarkable 143.8 Passer Ratingto go with a 91.1 Pro Football Focus offensive grade. His fourth-quarter touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb helped Prescott make some history, giving him more touchdown passes than any other quarterback in Cowboys franchise history.
Prescott was arguably the most productive quarterback in the NFL in Week 2. He led the league in CPOE (18.0) and Success Rate(65.8%) and was second in EPA/Play (0.459) and Adj EPA/Play (0.459).
If the Cowboys’ quarterback is playing the way he did on Sunday, it’s going to be hard for any team to keep Dallas’ offense in check. If the defense can get anywhere close to league-average, with Prescott looking like a true MVP candidate, the Cowboys could be a legit contender to make a deep playoff run.
