Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
Howie Roseman: The bottom line is winning, Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni do that – PFT Roseman said on WIP that he doesn’t agree with the perception that quarterback Jalen Hurts is “on the clock” and is heading into a make-or-break year to remain the franchise quarterback. “No I don’t agree with that,” Roseman said. Roseman said Hurts and head coach Nick Sirianni are proven winners, and that’s what the franchise needs. In games started by Hurts since
Sirianni became head coach, the Eagles are 56-22 in the regular season and 6-4 in the postseason, including winning a Super Bowl. “I think the bottom line for us, in the position we’re in, and really for all our fan base, is winning football games,” Roseman said. “And all [Hurts] does is win football games, and that includes our head coach as well. For me, the barometer is winning football games. In terms of what Jalen does, he’s another guy with a tremendous track record. All he does is go out and play good football. Really excited to have him as our quarterback, excited about this season and what we have going forward, and I know there are a lot of fan bases out there that would love the results we’ve had with him as our starting quarterback.”
NFC East training camp recap – BGN
The defense looks like it’s going to be very, very good. The offense? Eh. The starting QB is using ChatGPT for Stuart Smalley daily affirmations. I am not saying that I can throw a bowling ball farther than Andy Dalton can throw a football, but watching Dalton it feels like I can throw a bowling ball farther than Dalton can throw a football. Dalton doesn’t matter though, he’s either gone by the time the season starts or if he plays then things are going pretty poorly and there’s plenty of larger problems.
Patience Needed – Iggles Blitz
The Eagles are being patient with Makai Lemon and Eli Stowers. Both guys had limited summers. Lemon was hurt and Stowers struggled before getting hurt. The Eagles spent Top 60 picks on both players so they will get plenty of time as long as the players are making a good faith effort to improve. And both are doing that. The QB situation is trickier. The team says all the right things about Tanner McKee and Andy Dalton. The tape says all the wrong things. But tape can be tricky.
NFL players, coaches, GMs under the most pressure in 2026 – ESPN
Let’s touch on that offensive shift, which involves three young offensive assistants around the NFL. O’Connell is about to ask his quarterback the same question that these assistants will of theirs, but as a highly regarded head coach, he’s not on the same sort of hot seat that any coordinator is in a given season. The Commanders (Jayden Daniels), Ravens (Lamar Jackson) and Eagles (Jalen Hurts) have three successful quarterbacks who have thrived working out of the shotgun or pistol and made a meaningful impact moving the ball with their legs on designed quarterback runs. And to some extent, those three teams are going to ask their quarterbacks to do something different in 2026 by operating from under center. […] It’s a big bet by three teams with quarterbacks who have already proved themselves as successful without needing to go under center very often. If those bets work out, Blough, Doyle and Mannion could be in line to earn head-coaching consideration as early as next offseason. If not, well, the world isn’t very forgiving to young playcallers. Mannion is the fourth Eagles coordinator in four years. Klint Kubiak had three single-season stints as a coordinator before landing his head-coaching gig with the Raiders. If things go wrong, all three teams could be pursuing new options and moving their quarterbacks back out from under center in 2027.
Jonathan Greenard’s availability is unknown, but his position coach says Eagles pass rusher has ‘been an A-plus’ – Inquirer
At Sunday’s roster cutdown deadline, Howie Roseman decided that Jonathan Greenard would not start the year on the Physically Unable to Perform list after dealing with a pectoral strain throughout training camp. The Eagles general manager said that the veteran pass rusher would be “playing sooner rather than later,” but he added that he would keep Greenard’s exact timeline “close to the vest.” While Greenard’s availability for the Sept. 13 season opener against the Washington Commanders might be a mystery to the public, his potential impact among the Eagles edge rusher corps once he returns to action isn’t in doubt — /at least to his position coach, Jeremiah Washburn. “He’s what we thought he’d be,” Washburn said Wednesday. “And working really hard and staying engaged and been an A-plus in the meeting room and on the field.”
How one book helped Eagles’ Saquon Barkley and inspired Nick Sirianni – The Athletic
“The danger of comparison,” said Barkley, one season after entering NFL record books. “Comparison is stealing joy. There we go.” Seven months later, Barkley sat in a team meeting to begin the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2026 training camp. Standing in front of the room, Eagles coach Nick Sirianni shared summer reading with the team. It was the same book — Joshua Medcalf’s 2015 self-published self-help title. “I gave this book to some of you guys, have some extra copies in there if some of you are interested in this book, ‘Chop Wood Carry Water,’” Sirianni told the players, as documented by team footage. “Really good book. It’s about how to fall in love with the process. And my favorite chapter in this book was being faithful in the small things. …Here are the highlights of this chapter: Focus on the small things, focus on the things you can control.”
Eagles TEs coach excited about Stowers’ development, but preaches patience – NBCSP
“I think for every player coming into the NFL,” Mahaffey said, “I’m always extremely mindful of a rookie that they have the proper mindset in terms of, ‘What’s our point of focus each and every single day?’ And the most important thing is that you’re remaining process-driven. If your process is sound, you’re applying the coaching, you’re giving great effort, you’re being a good teammate, you’re doing things with physicality, ventually, those types of things are going to come. I think it’s always a matter of your standards vs. your circumstance. Obviously, your standards are always going to be extremely high, set by Coach (Nick) Sirianni and Howie (Roseman) and the rest of the coaching staff. And at the same time, there’s a process to that. Usually, growth is not going to be linear. You’re going to have to, for any player, for the whole entire tight end unit, we’re going to face some adversity at some point. But our process has to remain the same. And eventually, I think you just start to stack days, you get a little bit better, you get a little better and hopefully over the duration, you’re stacking those type of days, you’re building the proper habits that eventually you’ll get to where you want to be.”
Suspect involved in burglary of Saquon Barkley’s house arrested, officials say – NBC10
A man involved in the attempted break-in of Saquon Barkley’s home has been taken into custody, a source told NBC10. The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Jabir Parker, of Philadelphia, officials said. According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, Parker is facing charges for two home break-ins and the attempted break-in of a third home that occurred in both Montgomery and Chester counties.
Ja’Quinden Jackson: Waived from IR – CBS Sports
Jackson’s tenure in Philadelphia has come to an end less than a month after first signing with the team. The 24-year-old will now look to get healthy and catch on with another team.
The reasons these 3 Cowboys players were released – Blogging The Boys
RB Jaydon Blue. Blue’s release may have been the most surprising of the Cowboys’ running back decisions. The 2025 fifth-round pick entered camp with legitimate expectations of competing for the RB2 role behind Javonte Williams. His rookie season was underwhelming as he spent most of 2025 on the bench. This preseason, Blue showed flashes of the speed and explosiveness that made him an intriguing prospect. He finished the 2026 preseason with 23 carries for 94 yards, averaging 4.1 yards per carry, while adding two receptions for 15 yards. His best performance came against Arizona, when he ran 15 times for 75 yards. Even if Dallas wasn’t simply looking for somebody to bring consistency and trust to the backfield, Blue did nothing to stand out and separate himself from the pack of running backs the Cowboys had in camp. No touchdowns and not even a single defining moment where Blue could have made the decision to let him go a tougher one. Dallas ultimately chose a different direction, claiming Emari Demercado off waivers from the Chiefs to add another experienced option behind Williams and Malik Davis, who won the RB2 spot. Blue didn’t have to wait long to find his next opportunity. Blue was signed to the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad. Philadelphia now has Blue as a developmental change-of-pace and receiving option behind Saquon Barkley and their running back group.
Mike Tanier: “The Commanders could be the worst team in the NFL” – Hogs Haven
“The Commanders are projected to win 7.7 games by DVOA. I think they have had a miserable offseason, despite adding Stefon Diggs. The cavalcade of 32-year old acquisitions I have been dunking on all summer leaves me with little faith about the quality of the front office and the lower tiers of the roster. Dire tales from joint practices make me wonder about the reconfigured coaching staff. So I think the Commanders could be the worst team in the NFL. It’s hard to project them with the worst record, because the Browns quarterback situation is so dire that the team could surrender at the trade deadline, while the Cardinals schedule is so brutal.”
NY Giants, Malik Nabers seem uncertain about his availability for Week 1 – Big Blue View
Malik Nabers did not follow what has become his usual practice routine on Tuesday. Nabers was not on the field at the beginning of practice for stretching warmups and individual drills. Instead, he remained inside with training staff. Reporters passed Nabers, in full uniform and headed to the field, while leaving at the conclusion of the media viewing period. That was roughly 20 minutes into practice. With hopes having risen that the star wide receiver, recovering from a torn ACL, could play in the Sept. 13 season-opener against the Dallas Cowboys, should the change in routine raise alarm bells regarding Nabers’ Week 1 availability? Head coach John Harbaugh downplayed the significance of the change in routine, calling it “just part of the process” as Nabers recovers from the pair of surgeries he had to repair his knee.
