With SC Freiburg’s 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich, SC Freiburg midfielder Maximilian Eggestein has now gone 21 consecutive matches without a victory against the Bavarian giants.
That is an astonishing run for the SC Freiburg veteran, who has repeatedly found himself on the wrong side of the result whenever he faces Germany’s most successful club. Eggestein transferred to SC Freiburg from Werder Bremen in 2021.
Bayern Munich once again proved too much to handle, taking all three points and extending Eggestein’s
miserable personal record against them. While SC Freiburg has established itself as a difficult opponent for plenty of Bundesliga sides, facing FC Bayern has been an entirely different story for the midfielder.
Twenty-one matches without a win is not just an unfortunate statistic anymore; it is becoming a rather remarkable streak of bad luck.
For Bayern Munich, it is another reminder of the psychological edge the club has over so many Bundesliga opponents. For Eggestein, it is another afternoon he would probably rather forget.
There are difficult opponents, there are bogey teams, and then there is Bayern Munich for Maximilian Eggestein. At this point, he might be wondering what he has to do to finally get one over on the Rekordmeister.
