2/4-2/10 Spotlight: Dylan Andrews
Hailing from Gardena, California, Dylan Andrews went from unranked to a top 50 recruit nationally after transferring to Compass Prep in Arizona for his senior year of high school. He had offers from some
of the biggest brands in college basketball, including Kansas, Arizona, and Louisville, but he ultimately decided to return to his home state by committing to UCLA ahead of the 2022-2023 season.
Backing up Tyger Campbell as a freshman, Andrews averaged 3.3 points on 11 minutes per game, helping the Bruins secure a two seed in March Madness. As a sophomore, he was handed the keys to the offense, as he posted career-high and team leading marks in points (12.9) and assists (3.7). The team success didn’t materialize, though, as UCLA finished the year with a losing record for the first time in eight years. Andrews’ role would be diminished for his junior campaign, as he went from twelve shot attempts per game to just seven. He still led the team in assists and started almost every game, but the writing was on the wall that his time in Los Angeles may be coming to a close. Following their second round loss to Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament, the California kid prepared to leave home once again by entering his name into the transfer portal. The former four star undoubtedly could have gone to another Power Four program that had recruited him out of high school, but instead, Andrews chose to go somewhere he could make a guaranteed impact. That destination would be Boise, Idaho.
While this has been a somewhat strange year for Broncos’ basketball, Andrews is putting up stats comparable to his career year as a sophomore. Not only that, but he’s started to find his groove as a scorer, reaching double figures in eight of his last nine starts. Arguably, his best performance was his most recent, as Andrews dropped a career-high 33 points on New Mexico to lead his squad to a 91-90 win in the Pit. Despite how the 2025-2026 season began for Boise State, they’ve now won six out of their last seven games, reigniting their hopes of going to the Big Dance. If the Gardena native continues to play like he has over the last week, those dreams may become a reality.
