Marcus Rashford admitted he wasn’t originally planning on shooting when he prepared to take his free-kick against Real Madrid in Sunday’s Clasico win for Barcelona.
The Manchester United loanee opened the scoring in style with a brilliant effort that flew over a helpless Thibaut Courtois and into the back of the net.
Rashford was asked about his effort after the game and revealed that his team-mates made him change his mind.
“No, I wasn’t going to shoot because when I put that ball down I didn’t see
the angles, I didn’t feel confident it was going to be a goal so I was going to cross,” he told BBC Sport. “But everyone was telling me to shoot and then I hyped myself up a little bit.
“It was a good goal. I came here to win, so this is it. I want to win as many things as I can. This team is wonderful, is going to win so much in the future. To be part of that would be special.”
Rashford was also asked about his future and admitted he does not know what happens next.
“I don’t know. I’m not a magician but if I was I would stay at Barcelona. We will see,” he added.
“Football is unpredictable but for now, I will just enjoy it, live in the moment and reassess at the end of the season and see what is possible.”
Rashford loan deal expires at the end of the season. It’s being reported Barca want him to stay but don’t want to pay the 30 million option in his contract and are hoping to secure him on a second loan.
