The dawn of the Jürgen Klopp era at Germany is about to reach full speed ahead as the former Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Mainz manager is naming his first Die Mannschaft squad ahead of the four UEFA Nations League matches to take place during the international break. Klopp has already made it clear he wants to shake things up a bit after Germany’s disappointing showing at the World Cup in the summer and get a look at as many different players as possible, which includes a bevy of players that
weren’t in Julian Nagelsmann’s World Cup squad.
For RB Leipzig’s Assan Ouédraogo, who was in the Germany squad for the World Cup following the injury to Bayern Munich’s Lennart Karl, it looks like he’s going to be missing out on the upcoming quartet of Nations League matches. The midfielder is facing a spell on the sidelines for Die Roten Bullen after sustaining a shoulder aggravation in Leipzig’s 5-0 win over Hamburg SV last weekend (via @iMiaSanMia). That same shoulder has been troubling the 20-year-old for quite some time and it will now require surgery in what’s an unfortunate, unlucky blow for the promising youngster.
The win over Hamburg was only Ouédraogo’s second appearance of the season after he clocked 30 minutes in the 4-1 loss to Como in the Champions League. He had been recovering from his shoulder problem before it was reaggravated in the Hamburg win with Leipzig having taken a cautious approach during their preseason preparations. He didn’t make any appearances for Germany at the World Cup despite being in the squad, but it’s likely that Klopp would’ve given him a chance in the upcmoning four-match run of Nationa League matches, adding insult to injury.
To date, Ouédraogo has not featured for Germany since their 6-0 World Cup qualifying win over Slovakia, a match in which he scored during his 13-minute cameo and ranks as his only appearance for the senior squad. This could’ve been a massive international break for the Leipzig man, but he’ll now have to wait to get his chance under Klopp.
