Every injury is unique, so considering all ACL injuries to be the same already is a losing pursuit, but it’s worth pointing out that Green Bay Packers pass rusher Micah Parsons’ ACL recovery is taking longer than similar injuries the team has suffered in the past. Going into the year, I assumed that Parsons’ injury would be on a similar timeline to that of receiver Christian Watson or tight end Tucker Kraft. Clearly, that’s just not going to be the case.
Watson tore his ACL on January 5th, 2025 and
was cleared by the Packers’ medical staff for practice on October 6th, 2025 — 275 days from his injury. Kraft tore his ACL on November 2nd, 2025 and was cleared by the Packers’ medical staff for practice on July 31st, 2026 — 272 days from his injury.
As of now, Parsons is 289 days removed from his injury date (December 15th, 2025) and counting.
Earlier this week, head coach Matt LaFleur stated that Parsons will not start practicing with the team in Week 4 (players on the physically unable to perform list are able to return to the 53-man roster beginning in Week 5) and that Parsons hasn’t been cleared by the Packers’ medical staff. In both the Watson and Kraft cases, there was a ramp-up period between when players were first activated for practice (usually just individual drills to start) and when they became full participants. That initial activation date is when the player was cleared by the medical staff.
By around Parsons’ current date in the Watson and Kraft recovery timelines, the pass-catchers were essentially full-goes. Parsons, for whatever reason, still hasn’t even been cleared to begin his ramp-up in individual drills, which will probably be another two weeks before he sees the field in a pitch count — as this was the plan for both Watson and Kraft in their first weeks back in a game-day setting.
If Parsons is so far away from being medically cleared that the Packers have already decided that he won’t even participate in Friday’s practice this week, as LaFleur stated, then it’s unlikely that Parsons will return to the field until at least Week 6 (if he is medically cleared and practices next week). For each week that he doesn’t practice, you can delay his return another week, too.
LaFleur stated that Parsons hasn’t had any setbacks in his recovery, which is believable, but it is at least a little interesting that Parsons’ return to the field is going to lag three or more weeks behind the Watson and Kraft timelines.
