What is the story about?

It didn’t take long for former Portland Trail Blazers broadcaster Kevin Calabro to find a new home. Strong rumors are swirling tonight that the long-time play-by-play man will join the Minnesota Timberwolves this season. The Daily Agenda had the first report on the hiring.

I have been told the Timberwolves intend to go in a different direction for the 2026-27 season, bringing in two announcers who bring well-established national credentials to work most of the team’s games on DAZN and a yet-to-be-announced

local station that will show 15 games on over-the-air TV.

Former Portland Trail Blazers broadcaster Kevin Calabro and Chicago Cubs play-by-play voice Jon (Boog) Sciambi are expected to be named as announcers for the majority of the Wolves schedule.

Calabro called games for the Seattle SuperSonics from 1987 through 2008. He did the same for nine years with the Trail Blazers between 2016 and 2026. He recently rejected a lowball (or in his words, “sub-prime”) offer to remain with the franchise. Calabro has also worked nationally for TNT, TBS, ESPN Radio, and NBA TV.
