The spring game is always a great time to get recruits on campus, and the Michigan Wolverines utilized that opportunity by having a handful of top targets in town last weekend for the annual scrimmage. Today’s edition of the Recruiting Roundup will focus on some players that attended the spring game last weekend, starting with one of the top overall players on Michigan’s board in this cycle.
Top WR target details ‘really good’ visit
2027 four-star wide receiver Quentin Burrell has been a top target of the Wolverines for a long, long time.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Chicago native has taken a handful of trips to Michigan over the last year or so, including last weekend for the spring game with several of his teammates from Mount Caramel High School.
Speaking with The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich ($), Burrell recapped his latest visit to Ann Arbor.
“It was really good,” Burrell said. “It was good to get more time with coaches and staff and other recruits.
“It was good to be there with some of my teammates and to spend time with coaches and other wide receiver recruits, too. I got a feel with what it’s like off field just hanging out with them.”
Burrell also mentioned he was happy to see Ron Bellamy back with the program in the recruiting department, and that the two of them got to reconnect over the weekend. Bellamy was Burrell’s original recruiter before the new coaching staff got hired.
His Top 4 list includes Michigan, Notre Dame, Arizona State and Missouri. Burrell will be at Arizona State this weekend for his official visit, and will head to Notre Dame the weekend of June 12 before wrapping up official visit season at Michigan the weekend of June 19. He has yet to finalize an official to Missouri, and has no timeline for when he wants to make a commitment.
New edge target locks in official visit
One of the players the Wolverines recently extended an offer to is 2027 edge rusher Alex Johnson. At 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, Johnson is from Fort Mill, South Carolina and has seen his recruitment take off in recent months after getting a bunch of other Power 4 offers.
Johnson visited Ann Arbor over the weekend for the spring game and left with an offer in hand.
After that visit, he told TMI’s Marich ($) that he has locked in an official visit to Ann Arbor for the weekend of June 19. He also has official visits set up for NC State, Virginia Tech, Boston College and Vanderbilt. Johnson is also heavily considering SMU, despite not having an official set up just yet.
“It was a great trip,” Johnson said. “I really liked how down to earth the coaches are and you can tell how they care about you as a person before they care about you being a player.
“Coach Powell pulled me into his office and I couldn’t stop smiling (after getting the offer). My mom was crying from excitement and I immediately called my dad and he almost jumped through the phone.
“After the visit, it definitely gave me a more clear understanding of how they do things and what they believe in, so I definitely have more interest now, but still don’t have a order or list of who I’m most interested in. What stood out the most (with Michigan) is how nice everybody was and genuine they all are.”
As a junior in 2025, Johnson compiled 60 tackles and seven sacks.
