I’ll be upfront: of course I’m greedy and want the Yankees to find a way to run down the Blue Jays for the AL East crown. But I know that it’s probably a long shot at this point, so a mere proof of life was requested after a dismal 7-1 loss on Friday in the Bronx. New York had lost seven of its last eight against Toronto. One 3-1 later, and the Yanks have won one of their last one against Toronto. That’s how I view it! The road to the AL pennant seems likely to go through the Jays in some form, so as long as there’s
some recent win to point to, good.
But also? Just win today, take the series, and chip away the AL East lead to two games. Much respect to Max Scherzer for his legendary career, but Max Fried shouldn’t be losing matchups to him at this point. Simple as that!
Today on the site, Michael will take the occasion of the Yankees’ CC Sabathia Hall of Fame induction celebration (which will precede today’s matinee) with an argument that he should be the next Yankee honored in Monument Park. Matt and Kevin will have the Rivalry Roundup and the 2000 Yankees Diary, respectively, and then we’ll have baseball! John will have the Social Media Spotlight after the game.
