Barcelona may have lost El Clasico to Real Madrid but fans did get to enjoy seeing veteran stopper Wojciech Szczęsny deny superstar Kylian Mbappe from the penalty spot.
Szczesny went the right way to deny
the France international in the second half after Eric Garcia had been harshly penalised for handball.
The Poland international has now been quizzed on the penalty and says he knew what Mbappe was going to do.
“It was quite obvious, he scored the last penalty against me taking it like that. He was in a good moment of confidence, I knew he would choose the same side. Then you have to pray to reach the ball,” he told the club’s media.
“I study a lot. Before each match, I watch the last 20 penalties taken by the two or three main penalty takers. Sometimes you pick up information during their career. Some shoot differently depending on the moment in the match or the score. I try to have as much information as possible.”
Szczesny will be back between the sticks again on Sunday against Elche, although Joan Garcia is getting closer to a comeback.
