Women’s Volleyball (7-1)
The women’s volleyball team ran its winning streak to four with wins over Stanford, Ohio, and Villanova. Penn State swept Stanford on Friday night at the Palestra in one of the team’s best defensive efforts so far this season. Haley Burgdorf continued a strong start to her career with 10 kills, nine digs, and two aces. The Cardinal committed 13 serve errors, and Penn State had 56 digs in three sets.
Penn State followed it up with an easy 3-0 sweep over Ohio on Saturday and defeated Villanova 3-1 on Tuesday
night. Gabrielle Nichols had 13 kills and six blocks in a dominant effort to lead the Nittany Lions to a win over the Wildcats, who have still never beaten Penn State.
Penn State will host South Florida on Friday (6pm on BTN) and Tennessee on Sunday (2pm on BTN).
Women’s Soccer (3-2-2)
The women’s soccer team fell 1-0 to Ohio State on the road to open conference play, but the Lions answered with a 1-0 win over Minnesota in the Big Ten home opener. Aubrey Kulpa scored the only goal on the weekend for the Nittany Lions, who have struggled offensively. Penn State has scored more than one goal in only one of its five matches to date against power conference opponents.
Penn State will face Maryland on the road on Friday (5pm on Big Ten Plus).
Field Hockey (3-2)
The field hockey team lost its only match of the week, a 2-1 decision to Princeton. Cooper Cutchins scored for Penn State on the Nittany Lions’ only shot on goal in the game. It was another struggle for the offense against a high-quality opponent, but there is still a long season in front of them.
Penn State closes out its home stand against Maryland today (5pm on Big Ten Plus) before hitting the road to take on Monmouth on Sunday (noon).
Men’s Soccer (2-3)
Amadou Kone and Sheridan McNish scored for Penn State, but the defense collapsed in a 4-2 loss to Washington. The Huskies outshot Penn State 20-6 and had 14 corner kicks. The match was tied at halftime, but Washington seized control of the game early in the second half and did not let Penn State find a rhythm offensively to get back in it.
Penn State returns home to take on Michigan State on Friday (7pm on Big Ten Plus).
