After five consecutive wins, the North Carolina Tar Heels relinquished the Victory Bell last season on a dominant fourth quarter performance from Duke.
The Tar Heels had their chance last season, but could
not capitalize in the final minutes.
The loss to the Blue Devils last season was a pivotal factor influencing the coaching change last year, and all eyes will be on the game today.
It is do or die for Carolina this week, as bowl hopes, whatever they may be, hinge on a win this afternoon.
Even with two vacated wins, UNC has won nearly three-quarters of the football games between these programs since 1990.
The Tar Heels did not lose to the Blue Devils in the 1990s, carrying that win streak through 2002.
Was that 23 years ago, or another lifetime?
This is a different Duke program, and the Carolina program is, once again, trying to find its identity.
