CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Offensive coordinator Barry Lunney Jr. has not been afraid to pull out the trick plays all season. From a fullback toss to Hank Beatty for a touchdown against Ohio State, or the Philly
Special remake against USC, Lunney Jr. has not been afraid to think outside the box.
Thinking outside the box is an understatement for what just took place on this 3-yard Luke Altmyer touchdown run.
Now try to stay with me on this, because it gets tricky.
On fourth and goal from the three, Luke Altmyer lined up in the shotgun with Kaden Feagin to his right. But, before clapping his hands and receiving the snap, Altmyer shifted behind his left guard and Feagin moved behind center. Altmyer, still acting as if he was behind center, clapped his hands for the snap, but the direct snap went to Feagin, who then handed the ball right back to Altmyer for the the touchdown run.
If you are confused by that, just imagine what Rutgers was thinking on the field.
Altmyer was using his legs the whole drive, accounting for 55 rushing yards on the 75-yard touchdown drive.
Going into halftime he is at 86 rushing yards, only 14 shy of his career high.
