Ole Miss will look to improve to 5-0 for the season when Austin Peay visits the SJB Pavilion on Tuesday night with a 7 p.m. tipoff.
The Rebels (4-0) are coming off the nostalgic win in the final game at
the Tad Pad on Friday over Cal State Bakersfield. The old arena is set for demolition in 2026, and honestly it’s way past time after sitting in there for a game – another post for another day.
The Governors (3-1) have been on a road swing most of this month with games at Air Force, Wyoming and UNC-Greensboro, so this team comes in a little battle tested for mid-November. Ole Miss has successfully defended its home court in the regular season thus far though there was an exhibition loss to St. Mary’s earlier this year. Last season, Chris Beard’s squad went 13-3 at home, so the early results are trending in the same direction.
It’s way too early to even be thinking about the postseason, but just food for thought Joe Lunardi’s Bracketology has Ole Miss as a 9-seed in his Nov. 11 edition. The Rebels and Governors have been averaging more than 84 points per game, but don’t buy too much into that statistic as one outlier game for Austin Peay (128 points vs. Bryan College) skews their numbers.
Ilias Kamardine has been leading Ole Miss offensively this season, and on social media, he is drawing comparisons to Tyrese Halliburton for the same height, weight and similar shooting style. His arrival in Oxford from France is having a massive impact thus far, and Tuesday’s game should allow for fans to see more than just Kamardine on the floor.
One player I have been keeping close eyes on is Travis Perry a sharpshooting transfer from Kentucky. He has averaged only 14 minutes per game and four points per game this season, but he holds just about every high school basketball scoring record in the state of Kentucky. He is getting more time on the court than he did with the Wildcats, but he hasn’t found his outside shooting stroke just yet. If Perry can get hot at times this season, he will be a huge sixth man addition to the roster.
This game will be streamed on SEC Network+ starting at 7 p.m. CT.
