Several position groups on the Cleveland Browns will feature interesting competitions this summer as the coaching staff and front office evaluate how to build the strongest roster possible. The roster battles will look a little different this year with head coach Todd Monken leading the team. He may have a completely different vision for this team, which could influence some of the roster decisions he makes.
The most important battle this summer will be at quarterback. It seems that the starting spot
will be a duel between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders. Two other quarterbacks will be fighting to make the roster as well – Dillon Gabriel and Taylen Green. Regardless of whether he plays, Watson will be on the roster due to his contract. Sanders will likely get another shot after showing some bright spots last season. It would make the most sense for Green to get that third spot over Gabriel. The team already has a body of work to evaluate from Gabriel, but they’ll want to see what Green can bring to the table.
The offensive line has several new faces this season, which will make the competition at those positions especially interesting. Elgton Jenkins could start at a number of positions, as could rookie first-round pick Spencer Fano.
At safety, does Ronnie Hickman hold off rookie second-round pick Emmanuel McNeil-Warren?
These battles may not be as flashy as the quarterback battle, but it will be crucial to the Browns’ offensive success this season.
Let me know what you think in the comments – Which Browns’ position battle will be the most competitive?
