Deniz Undav rolled into the international break as one of the hottest scorers and playmakers in Europe.
Even that might not be good enough to get the VfB Stuttgart star a start vs. Ghana under Julian Nagelsmann.
“He will get minutes, but we don’t yet know how we’ll start. We have to wait for the final training session. There will be changes tomorrow compared to the last game,” Nagelsmann said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Meanwhile Bild (via @iMiaSanMia) is reporting that Undav’s role will be off the
bench:
The training sessions in recent days have indicated that Nick Woltemade is likely to start upfront against Ghana tomorrow. Deniz Undav is to get minutes off the bench. Kai Havertz would get a rest as he’s just come back from injury.
Since February 1st, Undav has 9 goals and 6 assists in 13 games across all competitions. With his ability to play at striker or as a second striker, Undav would seem like a good player to have on Germany’s World Cup roster. However, Nagelsmann’s reluctance to use the 29-year-old could be a look into the manager’s plans.
