Barcelona look set to make a major addition to the squad ahead of the new season as the club is in advanced talks with Manchester City to sign 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri.
The midfielder chose Barça over Real Madrid and the Catalans are looking to close a deal as soon as this weekend, bringing Spain’s World Cup winning captain to Camp Nou in a blockbuster transfer.
Rodri is an experienced player and serial winner who would bring the kind of veteran leadership Hansi Flick believes has been missing
from the squad since Iñigo Martínez left a year ago.
“We need leaders on the pitch”, the coach said when asked what Barça needed to win the Champions League after their elimination to Atlético Madrid last season, and Rodri certainly fits that profile and has a Champions League winning goal on his resume in addition to all of his success with Spain.
