Andreas Christensen says he’s grateful to have been handed another chance at Barcelona and is hoping he can stay injury-free next season and prove his worth.
The Denmark international endured another injury-plagued season last time around but was still handed a contract extension this summer.
Christensen spoke about the new campaign after arriving in England for pre-season with Barca.
“I feel good. Obviously, the body notices that we train more and more and with greater intensity, but that’s what we’re
here for, to get in shape. Right now the objective is to be in the best possible physical condition and, above all, to be able to complete a season without injuries,” he told Sport.
“I think we all expect the same thing. My goal is to stay fit, keep improving and get back to my best level. I have had a very difficult season and a half. Now I only think about getting in the best possible shape, being available throughout the season and getting back to my best version. That’s what I’ve tried to do this summer: to work really hard to come back in the best condition.”
Christensen also spoke about the future and made it clear he’s very happy to be continuing his career at Barcelona.
“I’m very happy and very proud. I am very grateful that the club has given me another chance. I also think the club is confident that I can get back to my best. It’s great news for me and my family,” he added.
“This is the perfect place to be. We have a young team with a lot of talent and we play football that I like. It’s a place where I feel safe and where I can still continue to grow.”
The Dane captained the side in their first pre-season outing against CE Europa on Friday and will be hoping for more game this week when Barca take on Birmingham City in a friendly.
