Florida State may be 2-0 and in the midst of the first bye week of the season, but head coach Mike Norvell and the FSU football program are continuing to press on the accelerator instead of throttling back during their off week.
“I thought today was a productive work day for us,” head coach Mike Norvell told the Tallahassee media on Wednesday, “We got to continue to refine different things, offensively
and defensively. We got to push the competition there in special teams, which I thought the guys had a very competitive period for us today. We got some good speed, third down, red zone situation. I thought we accomplished what we needed to accomplish here today.”
As part of the bye week, the Seminoles are preparing for their next batch of games, which includes their first matchups on the road this season. Norvell mentioned during his press conference that he exposed the offense to a road-game practice and turned up the crowd noise inside the Dunlap Practice Facility.
“Through this week, we tried to create some adversity for the offense with crowd noise and different dynamics to work, operate and communicate. We tried to make that as challenging as we could. I know it will be a few weeks before we go on the road, but I wanted to make sure we really emphasized that as well.”
The head coach rounded out his opening statement, mentioning the team’s schedule for the rest of the week, which includes “workouts tomorrow” before “getting a few days off.”
Later in his press conference, Coach Norvell delivered an update on freshman LB Ethan Pritchard:
“He is progressing, but still in a critical state. I got to go see him on Monday for a short while. I talked to his dad this morning before practice. I’ve been staying up multiple times a day trying to stay connected. Just continuing to pray for him.”
Along with Coach Norvell, LB Stefon Thompson and DE Jayson Jenkins spoke with the local Tallahassee media after practice. All three media availabilities can be found below.
