Towards the end of last month, promising young Liverpool striker Jayden Danns suffered a hamstring injury in U21 action against Ipswich Town. The injury came just a week following his return to action with
the first team with an appearance against Southampton in the League Cup.
Now, U21 coach Rob Page has confirmed the injury—and the severity of it. Danns’ hamstring injury may not be a season ender, but it’s likely to see the 19-year-old sidelined for a number of months, with a return expected some time in the new year in what is another significant setback for him.
“It could be a couple of months,” Page said ahead of his U21 side’s match against Crewe Alexandra. “It’s not going to be a quick fix, but that’s all I’m prepared to say. If anyone can get through this setback, it’s him. He’s got the full support of the medical team and the club, and staff. He’ll get through it.”
Danns made a number of first team appaearances in 2023-24 and appeared ready for regular first team minutes, setting himself out as one of the club’s most talented young prospects, but an injury in pre-season ahead of 2024-25 meant that he missed much of the first half of that season.
A loan to Sunderland in January was meant to help get him back on track, but Danns struggled with further injuries while working to get back up to match fitness on loan and returned to Liverpool to rehabilitate, finally reaching a point it was felt he could once again contribute in September.
