It took a few weeks, but Arizona’s No. 1 starter looked the part in his last outing. And that resulted in the first conference award for the Wildcats.
Junior right-hander Owen Kramkowski has been named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after throwing seven shutout innings against Fresno State on Friday. It is his first weekly league award and first for a UA pitcher since joining the Big 12 last season.
Kramkowski struck out a career-high 12 in the 6-0 win over Fresno, part of a string of great outings by Arizona’s weekend starters. The last five Friday-Sunday starts have all gone at least six innings and allowed three earned runs or fewer.
A projected high draft pick this summer, Kramkowski had struggled in his first three starts, allowing 13 runs (11 earned) in 11.2 innings with 12 strikeouts and eight walks. He did not walk a batter on Friday, returning to the form that saw him issue only 18 free passes in 92 innings in 2025.
Arizona (6-9) returns to action Tuesday at ASU for a nonconference matchup, its last before starting Big 12 play. The Wildcats have won five of six.
