Barcelona manager Hansi Flick confirmed that Lamine Yamal will be in the squad and make his return from injury in Sunday’s La Liga match against Real Sociedad.
The teenage superstar missed the last four games after sustaining a groin injury while in international duty with Spain, and Flick confirmed Yamal will have minutes this weekend.
The German was also asked if Lamine should be called up by Spain for their next international window in October, and the coach declined to get into a war of words with
Luis de la Fuente after the La Roja manager said earlier in the week he was “not interested” in Flick’s opinion following the Barça coach’s criticism of how Yamal’s health was handled by the national team.
“He’ll be available tomorrow, but it’s not my job to select Lamine. It’s [De La Fuente’s] decision. It’s his decision.
“Whether he is on the bench or starting he will have minutes tomorrow.”
Barça and the national team always have tensions but this situation has certainly made things a lot more spicy, and Spanish media LOVES the spice. It’s good for Flick to try and calm things down, but it would certainly be a stupid decision by De La Fuente to call up Yamal just a week after his return from injury, which was caused while playing for Spain in the first place.
We all know what’s gonna happen, though.
