Guard Nene Ndiaye of Rutgers women’s basketball announced her intentions to enter the transfer portal earlier today. With her departure, the Scarlet Knights will lose their leading scorer from last season. She is the second player to announce her intentions to transfer, after Antonia Bates announced she will be entering the portal last night. Since Rutgers hired Gary Redus II to be the new head coach of the women’s basketball program, a transfer portal window will open up in about three days for
current Rutgers players to enter. That is when Ndiaye and Bates are expected to officially enter the portal.
Last season, Ndiaye led the team in points per game despite missing some time, averaging 14.8 points per game, while adding 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. She also led the team in three-point shooting percentage with 41.6 percent, and was second on the team in free throws, hitting 74.5 percent of her shots from the line.
She recorded two double-doubles this season, one against Northeastern and another against Lafayette. She finished the year with seven 20-point performances, including two 26-point performances against Siena and Minnesota. She also recorded a 25-point performance against Purdue and a 24-point performance against Rhode Island.
Before she arrived at Rutgers last off-season, she had spent two years at Boston College. She took a major step up this year compared to her last season with the Eagles, where she played in 30 games, started 10, and averaged 4.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game.
She will now move on to her third school in three years, leaving Rutgers with one year of eligibility remaining.
