Well, the 2026 preseason is finally over with the Seattle Seahawks tying the Kansas City Chiefs 9-9 on a missed 52-yard field goal by Jason Myers. Actually, the reason the game was tied in the first place was because of a missed extra point by Myers earlier in the game. More on that later.
I wouldn’t say that Seattle was impressive by any sense of the imagination against Kansas City, but they played well enough to win the game. Once again, there were no starters to be found on the field for the Seahawks
while the Chiefs had a number of their first string get snaps including Travis Kelce, and Chris Jones. Maybe the best news of all was that there were no major injuries considering the shitshow that encompassed the trip to face the Tennessee Titans.
Seahawks Droppings
- Jalen Milroe looked the best he has as a Seahawks QB throwing for over 200 yards and 1 TD. It would’ve looked even better if some of his teammates had made routine plays – a trend that’s been going on throughout this preseason. Milroe was credited with a fumble on a backwards pass to Jacardia Wright. Sure, the throw was a little low at waist high, but Wright needs to catch that. The next time Julian Hicks catches a pass will be the first time. I was impressed with Milroe’s decision making and accuracy overall tonight as he made some beautiful explosive passes of 40, 30, and 24 yards. Milroe also had an easy rushing TD on a read option that was (surprise, surprise) called back on a holding call. He followed that up with a TD pass to Nick Vannett. Milroe is still a work in progress, but definitely one that deserves to stick around on the roster.
- Yes, it is officially time to be concerned with Jason Myers. I touched on the subject last week, and Myers missed two more kicks tonight. The worst part was that neither was particularly close with a miss both wide left and wide right. All he needed for a hat trick was another one that came up short. Five missed kicks in three games is scary. Kickers are weird, man. It seems like they’re good until all of a sudden they aren’t and there’s no coming back from that.
- The rushing game was poor for Seattle on both sides of the ball. They were only able to manage 54 yards rushing on offense while giving up 155 rushing yards on defense. Seattle’s backup offensive lineman have played quite poorly all preseason blowing blocks and getting penalized. The game against the Chiefs was no different.
- Nehemiah Pritchett had a good game again tonight. He seems clearly set as the third CB behind Devon Witherspoon and Josh Jobe. Newcomer Trevon Diggs had an INT after only two practices with the team. Not too shabby.
- I’m not entirely convinced that Montorie Foster Jr has locked up a roster spot. Fans fret every year that the guys they cut will get scooped up by someone else, but every team has their own version of Foster. Cody White and Emmanuel Henderson Jr played well in this game and are just as deserving of a roster spot.
- At least the Seahawks had less than 100 penalty yards finishing with 90. This whole preseason it seems like Seattle has shot themselves in the foot on two thirds of their drives with a stupid penalty. It’s hard to dig out of a hole when you’re sitting at 1st and 20. I expect that to get cleaned up when the starters are on the field.
- Jamie Sheriff had two great special teams tackles while also getting some pressure off the edge. I don’t know if it was enough to get him a spot on the roster, but no one has really pulled away in that EDGE competition.
- I’m guessing it was just because of the lack of depth at safety, but seeing D’Anthony Bell playing into the 4th Quarter was surprising considering it seems like he’s a lock for the roster. Rodney Thomas II was back in action after an injury which was good to see. He’s still in the mix for a spot due to the Bud Clark injury. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Clark’s replacement is not yet on the roster. Maybe it’s time for a Jerrick Reed II reunion in a trade with TEN or a Nino signing after Week 1?
Despite the Myers fiasco, I came away pretty encouraged with this game. The stream I was watching was the Chiefs broadcast so it was interesting to hear some of their analysis. Former Chiefs QB and current NFL Analyst Trent Green was on the broadcast and came away quite impressed with Milroe. Sometimes it’s good to get a different perspective from someone who doesn’t religiously follow the team.
We can have such high expectations as fans that it colors our view of how some of the players are actually progressing. No, the Seahawks didn’t win any preseason games this year which we would’ve all liked to see. Their young players, however, did get vital reps to aid in their progression should they be called upon in the regular season. Real ball is up next, and I couldn’t be more excited!
