After losing to Duke on Saturday night, the Michigan men’s basketball team lost its No. 1 ranking in the AP Poll and fell to No. 3 ahead of a crucial week in Big Ten play.
Despite the loss, Michigan remain the No. 1 team on KenPom, the NET rankings, and Evan Miya’s and Bart Torvik’s ratings.
This upcoming week is an important one for the Wolverines, as they host Minnesota on Tuesday night (8:30
p.m., Big Ten Network) before heading to No. 10 Illinois on Friday (8 p.m., FOX). With one win this week, Michigan clinches a share of the Big Ten regular season championship. If the Wolverines go 2-0, however, they will win the conference championship outright.
The women’s team also falls in the rankings
Meanwhile, the Michigan women’s basketball team only played one game this past week, a brutal 62-44 loss at now-No. 9 Iowa in which the Wolverines were outscored badly in the second and fourth quarters (15-8 in the second, 20-9 in the fourth). Michigan also turned the ball over 24 times, which resulted in 21 Iowa points.
Following that game, Kim Barnes Arico’s team moved down from No. 6 to No. 8 in this week’s AP Poll.
Things don’t get any easier for the Wolverines this week, as they travel to No. 13 Ohio State on Wednesday (8 p.m., Peacock) before hosting No. 14 Maryland on Saturday (2:30 p.m., FOX) to close out the regular season.
