Barcelona have issued an update on Frenkie de Jong’s injury after the midfielder returned to the club early from international duty with the Netherlands.
De Jong underwent fitness tests on Monday morning at the Ciutat Esportiva and Barcelona have confirmed he has been ruled out with a minor problem.
Here’s the club’s official statement:
“The player Frenkie de Jong has suffered a slight injury to the external obturator muscle in his right leg. His recovery will determine his availability.”
De Jong is not expected to feature against Valencia at the weekend in the team’s next La Liga match, as Barcelona don’t want to rush him back, but is not expected to be out for too much longer.
The Dutchman is one of several stars currently sidelined for Hansi Flick’s side. Spain stars Gavi and Alejandro Balde have also picked up injuries and are set to miss the coming games for Barca.
