The Wisconsin Badgers announced they’ll be taking on the Virginia Tech Hokies in the 2031 season opener on Wednesday.
The two sides were initially expected to play two weeks later on September 12th, 2031, in Blacksburg, Virginia. However, the game date and location have changed. Now, the game will take place on August 30th, 2031, at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, as a part of the Duke’s Mayo Classic.
The Badgers last played in Charlotte in the 2020 Duke’s Mayo Bowl, winning
42-28 over the Wake Forest Deacon Demons.
The 2031 contest between the two sides is the first game in a home-and-home series. The Badgers will host the Hokies in 2032 at Camp Randall Stadium as a part of their non-conference slate. It will be the first time that the Badgers are facing Virginia Tech.
Wisconsin has put together some highly competitive non-conference games over the next few years.
After taking on the Alabama Crimson Tide in each of the past two years, the Badgers are finishing a series with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish next year, taking them on in September at Lambeau Stadium. They are also taking on Pitt at Camp Randall Stadium as their third non-conference game.
In 2027, the Badgers are traveling to Dublin, Ireland, to take on Pitt in the season opener to wrap up that series. They also play Colorado State at Camp Randall.
In 2028, the Badgers host the Utah Utes in a Big 10 vs. Big 12 showdown at Camp Randall. The two sides are expected to complete their home-and-home series in 2033.
In 2029, Wisconsin is expected to travel to Cal for the season opener, with the two sides facing off at Camp Randall in the 2030 season opener. That leads us to the 2031 season opener against Virginia Tech, which was announced on Wednesday.
