We’ve been wondering the “why” ever since word started getting around that Austin Theory was the planned reveal as the masked mystery man helping The Vision. When that reveal finally came, just one week
ago, it was not accompanied by an explanation. They left that for another week.
Well, we didn’t have to wait long into this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw to get some clarity on the situation.
Indeed, The Vision were shown pulling up to the building. Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed appeared to receive Theory’s presence with some mixture of amusement and apathy. The former laughed, the latter stood stone-faced. Paul Heyman told them to get warm because he wanted to talk to Theory himself.
“What the hell are you doing?”
The question we’ve all been wondering.
“I wanted you to know why I was wearing the mask — I wanted everybody to feel my actions before they saw my face. I’ve made some bad decisions: I got comfortable; I got injured. But then I saw The Vision. You didn’t wait for anything, you took. And that’s me now. I take.”
Heyman was intrigued by this, and became even more intrigued when Theory offered to “take” a spot in the tag team match against CM Punk and Rey Mysterio later in the evening.
This tells us everything we needed to know. Theory was not recruited by Heyman was rather is a rogue agent trying to impress him. He’s done very little of that throughout his run with WWE, despite many advantages and opportunities to do so. This represents the latest, but at least they have a good story in place for it.
Later, Breakker & Reed were outright distrusting and downright combative with Heyman over including Theory in any plans. They were reminded they, too, were in once in his position and simply needed the guidance. So the tag match this evening would act as a tryout of sorts. For his part, Theory asserted himself to Reed during a planning session, saying he would start the match and Bronson could follow his lead.
Well, the audition went well. Theory used the Stomp to score the winning pinfall on Mysterio in the main event. Then he acted as a perfect distraction for Breakker to lay Punk out with a Spear to close the show.
It sure looks like Theory will be a full blown member sooner rather than later.
