The Texas Rangers have announced the major league coaching staff for 2025.
New manager Skip Schumaker is bringing back Luis Urueta as bench coach, the position which Urueta held under Bruce Bochy last year. Urueta was Schumaker’s bench coach during Schumaker’s two seasons as manager of the Miami Marlins in 2023-24.
Justin Viele will be the lead hitting coach. He spent the 2025 season as the non-lead hitting coach for the Rangers. Alex Cintron will also be a hitting coach for the Rangers in 2026. He played
nine seasons in the majors, and has been on the Houston Astros coaching staff since 2017, and has served as a hitting coach for them since 2020. Because of how MLB coaching staff works, the Astros have hired Anthony Iopace, who was the Rangers’ hitting coach from 2016-18, as their hitting coach for 2026.
Jordan Tiegs will be replacing Mike Maddux as pitching coach. Tiegs was the Rangers’ bullpen coach in 2025. Colby Suggs is replacing Tiegs as the bullpen coach. He was the bullpen coach for the Minnesota Twins the previous four seasons. Dave Bush, who was the assistant pitching coach last year under Maddux, returns for 2026 in the same role.
Corey Ragsdale, the team’s first base coach in 2025, will be the third base coach in 2026. Travis Jankowski, who spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons with the Rangers, has apparently retired as a player, and will be the team’s first base coach. Brett Hayes will be the catching coach, after being the bullpen coach from 2022-24 and quality control coach in 2025. Former Ranger catcher Rod Barajas has been named quality control coach.
