It’s Day 5 of Washington Commanders training camp in Ashburn, VA. Dan Quinn spoke to reporters before the start of today’s practice. Javon Kinlaw and Bill Croskey-Merritt are scheduled for Q&A’s after practice, along with players getting interview on the field. Quinn said this three-day block(Mon., Tues., Wed.) is powering up, stacking, and cleaning up any issues with what’s been installed. They’ll be running longer drives in practice today, putting more stress on the secondary and getting a better
look at the wide receivers in space.
Quinn was asked about several of the free agents Washington signed this year including Fabian Moreau who was signed today to replace a retiring Ahkello Witherspoon. Quinn said they liked the former Redskins 3rd-round pick’s versatility, and he’s also familiar with Daronte Jones from their time together on the Vikings the last two seasons. Quinn praised LB Leo Chenal’s winning standards, and is very high on the Commanders big offseason signing, EDGE Odafe Oweh.
The competition at left guard is on, and Quinn said that Chris Paul has dropped 20 lbs since last season. He said the new offense will run more zone and play-action, and Brandon Coleman has “always been quick off the spot”. He also talked about Jayden Daniels’ red zone touch, and said, “That’s not luck.” Antonio Williams is further along as a rookie than Luke McCaffrey was, but Quinn noted Luke had recently switched positions from QB. He described Jaylin Lane as more of a returner who added to the receiving room later.
