Aitor Karanka has played down the clash between Lamine Yamal and Spain team-mate Dani Carvajal during Sunday’s feisty Clasico clash.
Carvajal and Yamal had words at the end of the game at the Santiago Bernabeu
and a brawl promptly broke out between both sets of players.
There had been speculation before the game that Carvajal wanted to talk to Yamal as he was not happy with his pre-match commnents but Karanka – who is the technical director of development for the men’s team – says all is well.
“We’re calm, the atmosphere in the national team is incredible,” he told AS.
“I’ve been with the Federation for three months. I’m proud to be with this team, with the staff, with everyone on the expedition.
“What I sensed from the outside is what I see inside. Living with them and seeing that they’re a group that plays wonderfully, they’re the best, as Luis says… And inside it’s the same; we’re calm because the atmosphere at the Federation is incredible.”
Yamal and Carvajal may not actually meet again for some time. Real Madrid confirmed after the game that Carvajal has undergone knee surgery and is set for several months out.
