Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions announced today that they will co-promote heavyweight Jared Anderson alongside Top Rank, adding that “The Real Big Baby’s” next fight “will take place on British soil, with further details to be announced shortly.”
Anderson (18-1, 15 KO) looked for all the world like the Next Great American Heavyweight as he rose through the ranks, but the red flags started rising after his career-first decision over Charles Martin in 2023. He pleaded down charges of DWI and “improper
gun handling” a few months later, then got hit with a felony after instigating police chases. His issues bled over into his in-ring performances, as he stank out the joint against a semi-catatonic Ryad Merhy before getting smashed to bits by Martin Bakole.
He’s fought just once since, beating Marios Kollias by decision two Februarys ago.
The optimistic among you may note that he’s still just 26, which is basically an infant by heavyweight standards. He’s clearly got plenty of skills and the physical stats to be a player; it just boils down to whether he can keep his head on straight and show off the commitment that he was sorely lacking.
At the very least, he’ll have no shortage of potential opponents. Any predictions? I’m pretty sure David Adeleye is free.
