Arsenal are seriously considering a summer move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, according to TEAMtalk.
The report states that Arsenal have already scouted Gordon on location and are thinking about what’s next for him and Newcastle, given the Magpies’ situation, and thus are closely monitoring his potential availability come July.
TEAMtalk reports that Gordon is viewed as a strong fit for the left side of Mikel Arteta’s attack, where Gabriel Martinelli isn’t quite at the top-tier level Gordon would
add to the Gunners forward line.
While Arsenal’s preferred attacking target remains Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, the problem is that Alvarez doesn’t want to move to the wing, thus complicating a move to London.
“The Newcastle winger is one of several high-profile names being linked with a potential move, despite the Magpies making it clear internally that there will be no fire sale coming at St James’ Park,” TEAMtalk state.
The report adds that Gordon is keen to compete at the highest level, and with Newcastle’s likely failure to secure Champions League—or any other European competition, for that matter—football for next season, it’s more than probable he seeks an exit while still in his prime.
TEAMtalk further claim that Gordon’s camp have made Arsenal aware that the opportunity to work under Arteta would strongly appeal to the player.
Liverpool are widely known as admirers of their long-gone academy player and former Everton winger, and they already tried to snatch him a few months ago, so there’s still a chance they came back hunting—even more with Mo Salah’s exit now confirmed.
