As Puka Nacua prepares to enter the final season of his rookie contract, the L.A. Rams’ number receiver says that he plans to stay with the team long-term. While under normal circumstances this would seem like a given, the situation around Puka specifically, including Sean McVay having to talk to him about the importance of getting himself right before the team would commit, and the modern era of NFL trades including many blockbuster players over contract stalemates, this time his future is uncertain.
But according to a tweet by Arye Pulli, from what appears to be the scheduled appearance by Puka Nacua at Fanatics Fest, Nacua was asked if he is going to stay with the Rams and he responded: “That’s the plan.”
If the Rams can’t come to an agreement with Nacua before or during the season, they have the option of using the franchise tag in 2027.
That’s something both sides would like to avoid, however.
The going rate for a Puka contract could be over $40 million annually, if not $45 million, and very likely close to $100 million guaranteed.
That’s a substantial raise from the $1 million per year that Puka has earned thus far.
Nacua wants to stay with the Rams. But we know what the really means: For the right price.
