Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer came away encouraged after his side’s 2-1 preseason victory over Aston Villa, highlighting not only the result but also the progress the team is making ahead of the new campaign.
Reflecting on the performance, Neuer was pleased to see Bayern Munich overcome a quality opponent despite difficult conditions.
“For us, it was important to win the game against a top Premier League team that also qualified for the Champions League and to put in a good performance. The conditions
weren’t easy, but we presented ourselves well, and I’m very satisfied. We’re always trying to improve and get the basics right. The young players who are joining the team are trying to learn that as quickly as possible. They showed themselves to be very good,” Neuer told FCBayern.com.
Neuer also praised the support Bayern Munich has received throughout the Audi Summer Tour, emphasizing the importance of connecting with fans around the world.
“We’ve seen what we get back. The fans support us, so it’s good that we’re presenting ourselves here,” Neuer noted.
Looking ahead, the veteran goalkeeper believes Bayern Munich is in a strong position thanks to the continuity within the squad and the quality added during the transfer window.
“It’s important that the core of the team hasn’t changed much and that we’ve added fresh players to strengthen the squad. We still have test matches to prepare for the Supercup. We’re taking this very seriously, as was evident today,” said Neuer.
