Bayern Munich may have a very interesting situation at right-back heading into the new season. With Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanišić potentially sharing the position, the club could have two very different but highly useful options.
Laimer brings energy, aggression and an incredible work rate. He is not a traditional full-back, but his ability to cover ground, press opponents and contribute defensively makes him a difficult player to play against. He can also provide Bayern Munich with a more physical
and defensive presence on the right side.
Stanišić, meanwhile, offers versatility, composure and a more natural understanding of the position. He is comfortable defending, capable of playing on either side of the defense and has repeatedly shown that he can be trusted in big matches. His flexibility could be particularly valuable during a long season filled with injuries, suspensions and fixture congestion.
Neither player may immediately seem like the most dominant right-back in Europe, but Bayern Munich does not necessarily need one player to play every minute. A rotation between Laimer and Stanišić could provide Vincent Kompany with two different tactical options and help keep both players fresh.
The big question is whether that combination is good enough for Bayern Munich to win the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League. Can Laimer and Stanišić give Bayern Munich enough consistency and quality at right-back to compete for a treble?
