Ronda Rousey has been on a tear lately, ripping into all sorts of people in the MMA scene leading up to her May 16th comeback fight against Gina Carano on Netflix. But who would have imagined that flyweight GOAT Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson would end up in her crosshairs.
She’s been eviscerating UFC CBO Hunter Campbell, and went into Khamzat Chimaev for his comments about her return fight. Now it’s Johnson’s turn for comments he made about how she handled her losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes.
“F–k you, DJ, OK?” Rousey said on the All The Smoke podcast. “I was totally cool about you, and I put you over, and you were being … you said some nasty ass s–t about me.”
What did Demetrious Johnson say about Ronda Rousey?
“Look at Ronda Rousey … you got your ass beat, grow the f–k up,” Johnson told Sports Illustrated back in 2017. “It happens. It’s mixed martial arts. I don’t want to be like that. If I lose, I’ll be like, ‘I lost.'”
“Everybody f–king loses. It’s part of the sport. Grow up. Look, Ronda, you lost two f–king fights in a row, and you made more f–king money than the women’s roster. You’ll be fine. Don’t worry about it.”
Rousey disappeared from the world of MMA after her losses, shunning the spotlight and going into a self-described depression. The same drive that pushed her to be the best in the world also led to a major meltdown when she lost. To put it mildly, she did not handle it well.
Johnson’s comments, while maybe a little direct, were nowhere near as bad as some of the things said about the former UFC bantamweight champion. But somehow Rousey is still holding onto his comments from nine years ago. More fuel to drive this comeback? We’ll see how “Rowdy” looks on May 16th with all this stored up anger.
