The first nine-game SEC season is upon us, and this slugfest is sure to go down to the wire. The SEC hasn’t been atop the college football world in a few years, but it’s still the deepest and most sought after conference title in the land.
Week 0 comes this week, then the fun really begins. With conference play still a couple of weeks out, let’s take a look at the SEC’s conference title odds via FanDuel Sportsbook.
The favorites
Once again, the Georgia Bulldogs (+280) are favored to win the title down in Atlanta
this season. Kirby Smart brings back as many as 15 starters from last year’s team, along with a now experienced quarterback in Gunnar Stockton. The Bulldogs once again draw a pretty favorable schedule, getting Oklahoma, Missouri, Auburn and Vanderbilt at home. They’ll have to navigate road trips to Ole Miss and Alabama, which more than likely will determine their conference outcome.
Texas (+340) is next up at No. 2, entering the season with plenty of hype. Arch Manning is back with a slew of playmakers looking to get the Longhorns back on top of the college football world. However, the schedule for Texas is MUCH less favorable, with matchups against Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, at Tennessee, at LSU and at Texas A&M.
Can they finally get over the hump?
Three very good teams on paper enter the season without ever appearing in the SEC Championship Game.
Texas A&M (+1000) returns quarterback Marcel Reed, looking to build off of a College Football Playoff appearance last season. They’ll need Reed to take a step forward this season with tough trips to Oklahoma, LSU and Alabama on the schedule.
Ole Miss (+1000) might just return the best quarterback in the country with Trinidad Chambliss back in the fold. Pete Golding takes over following the Lane Kiffin saga after leading the Rebels to a semifinal appearance and nearly an appearance in the National Championship. Ole Miss draws roadtrips to both Texas and Oklahoma, but gets LSU and Georgia in Oxford.
Oklahoma (+850) is another program that returns a top quarterback, getting John Mateer back in Norman following a strong close to the 2025 season. The Sooners are another team with quite a bit of returning production, getting back 14 starters from a season ago. The schedule is tough on paper, but Oklahoma gets Ole Miss, Texas and Texas A&M on the road. Their biggest test comes with a trip to Georgia on September 26.
Wildcards
It’s sort of odd to see Alabama (+900) with such long odds, but the Crimson Tide are in a similar boat to Tennessee. They’ll be breaking in sophomore quarterback Keelon Russell for his first chance as the starting quarterback this season, leaving analysts and oddsmakers wondering how good this offense can be. The range of outcomes feel large here with title-winning upside, but it feels like they could also just end up 8-4 as well. A brutal stretch of Georgia, Texas A&M and at Tennessee and at LSU begins in October.
How good will year-one LSU be under Lane Kiffin? That’s probably determined by what he can get out of veteran passer Sam Leavitt. The Arizona State transfer is coming off of a season-ending injury, looking to return to his 2024 form. The Tigers have to go to Ole Miss, host Texas A&M, Texas and Alabama, then take a late-season trip to Knoxville.
Tennessee (+1800) has been a popular sleeper pick over the last month, with many citing Josh Heupel’s results with year-one quarterbacks. True freshman Faizon Brandon got the call to start for Heupel earlier this week, and he’s got plenty to work with offensively. The Volunteers have a favorable schedule with three huge SEC games at home (Texas, Alabama, LSU) along with a single ranked road trip to Texas A&M. Tennessee has an outside chance at getting into the picture, but they’ll have to take care of business in the should-win games, along with protecting home turf at Neyland.
Sleepers
Can anyone else climb in the race?
Florida (+2200) has generated some buzz, but draws at Ole Miss, at Texas, along with Georgia and Oklahoma. Missouri (+3500) is probably next in line and could be due for one of those sneaky good Eli Drinkwitz years, despite a rough schedule on paper. Vanderbilt (+8000) definitely deserves a mention after what Clark Lea has accomplished over the past couple of seasons as well, but what do the Commodores look like without Diego Pavia?
