Harry Kane arrived in Munich as an established world-class striker, but according to Bayern sporting director Max Eberl, what he has become at the club goes far beyond scoring goals. The England captain has grown into a leader who sets the standard, embraces responsibility, and helps drive the team forward.
Speaking to Säbener 51 (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Eberl highlighted a moment after Bayern’s 4–1 defeat to Barcelona during Vincent Kompany’s first season that revealed Kane’s leadership qualities.
“In a team with problems, even someone like Harry Kane finds it harder to perform at his best. Now, everything around him is working. What impressed me was this — in Vinnie’s first season, we lost 4–1 in Barcelona. After the game, Vinnie asked the team, “What did you make of that?” — Harry stood up and delivered an impressive speech, getting straight to the point. Since then, he has always led by example and never shied away from responsibility. We knew him as a world-class No. 9. But the way he plays today, and the role that the system and his teammates allow him to fulfil, is extraordinary. He is the perfect example of what a player can still become when all the right qualities come together,“ said Eberl.
That is what makes Kane’s evolution so fascinating. He has always been an elite goal scorer, but at Bayern Munich, he has also become a reference point for the entire team. His movement, link-up play, creativity, and leadership make him indispensable to Kompany’s system.
Bayern Munich did not just give Kane a new home; it gave him an environment in which he could become an even more complete footballer. With his performances reaching extraordinary heights, the partnership is proving to be a perfect match.
