Good news: Joan Laporta’s is back in action after a few days’ rest following a medical procedure.
The FC Barcelona club president had to undergo surgery to fix a cardiac arrhythmia — that is, an irregular heartbeat — on Tuesday. Doctors used a defibrillation procedure, essentially using controlled electrical impulses to shock his heart back into a normal rhythm.
Afterwards, he had to take a few days off to recover. On Friday, he’s been officially cleared to return to work.
Laporta celebrated on Instagram:
“I’ve been discharged! Heading home!”
The president thanked the Hospital de Barcelona, including the Emergency, ICU, Laboratory, Anesthesiology, Cardiology, Radiology, and Endoscopy departments and several specific doctors by name.
He also took a second to highlight the sponsorship agreement between the club and Assistència Sanitària, a medical insurance company, which guarantees medical care for all Barcelona players.
Laporta missed a board meeting and the trip to St. George’s Park in Staffordshire, England, where Barcelona did preseason work ahead of a match against Birmingham City. Laporta caught that game on TV.
