The SEC won the SEC/ACC Challenge 13-3 because it just means more, but it meant the most to Mikayla Blakes, who SEC Network selected as the best player in the challenge. She earned that (highly unofficial) honor against our stiffest competition of the season thus far (well, maybe not? More on that below), who we beat by 13 points even after taking our foot off the gas in the fourth. Next up is South Florida, who is no slouch either, but I am confident we can get the job done.
While I have you, I want
to look back at the Austin Peay game. The Governors have a NET of 131, which means they are way way better than last year (NET of 243). That does not excuse our struggles in that game, but I do think our performance makes more sense in that context. Given their NET, and the fact that we played them on the road in Clarksville, that actually makes Austin Peay a Quadrant 2 win on par with only our neutral-site win against Cal (NET of 76) to start the season. If you are not quite following, let me clear it up: Austin Peay is, according to the quadrant system, our best win of the season. Yeah, I know right? Who would have ever thought they’d make for a quality win just one season after, and I really will never be able to talk about Austin Peay ever again without mentioning this, losing to an NAIA team to start the season in 2024.
