CM Punk’s trainer this week addressed allegations that the WWE star has turned to steroids to achieve his more muscular look.
Regarding the steroid rumors, trainer Jay Ferruggia said that “just because someone’s getting somewhere and accomplishing something that you can’t doesn’t mean they are taking shortcuts and cheating.”
Punk began to look more chiseled in the weeks before WrestleMania 42, and he only continued to look more jacked afterwards. When he returned to the company after a short vacation
in July to beat Sami Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Championship, Punk appeared to have more definition than ever before.
The Second City Saint previously went into detail about how he became more shredded when he was interviewed by Stephanie McMahon on an episode of her What’s Your Story? podcast last month.
During the interview, Punk gave credit to Ferruggia, a fitness expert who works with high-profile athletes.
“So, six weeks before WrestleMania, and I can’t really tell you what set it in motion. I know I would always see Chad Gable posting his workouts, and it’s programmed by Jay Ferruggia,” Punk said, adding he was “motivated to go into WrestleMania looking physically different, looking like, ‘Oh, wow, okay, he really busted his ass.’”
According to Punk, a major part of his physical transformation came down to him starting to weigh his food and count calories.
“I really just kind of changed the way I ate and just really dialed in, buckled down.” Punk told McMahon.
Despite this explanation from Punk — as well as his long-standing Straight Edge beliefs of not taking drugs — his increased increased muscle mass led to inevitable and unsubstantiated rumors of steroid use.
Ferruggia himself has now pushed back on those rumors in a video posted on Instagram., and the trainer didn’t mince his words.
“‘CM Punk is on steroids,’ or so says the weak-minded, lazy internet,” Ferruggia said. “CM Punk is working his ass off. From day one, when he reached out to me, he has done every single thing that I’ve asked him to do. He’s on vacation in Hawaii, checking in with me every single day, sending me pictures, sending me his meals, sending me his macros, his weight, his temperature after meals, sending me videos from the gym, taking naps, getting enough sleep, getting morning sunshine, taking the supplements I tell him to take, never missing a workout, doing more than I ask him.”
Ferruggia continued: “I have to hold him back, getting his cardio in, weighing his food, buying rice cookers, buying scales, bringing all that with him on the road, eliminating all the s**t from his diet, training harder than ever, smarter than ever, better than ever, dialed in at a level that most people could never comprehend.”
The trainer went on to say that in his 30 years in the business, “CM Punk is working as hard as anyone I’ve ever worked with. He’s as dedicated as anyone.”
“You want to sit here and post after post, ‘CM Punk is on steroids,’ blah, blah. Meanwhile, half these pictures are AI, and the other half are from being in the gym with great lighting, with a great pump,” Ferruggia said.
About the rumors, he said outright: “So just because someone’s getting somewhere and accomplishing something that you can’t doesn’t mean they are taking shortcuts and cheating.”
What do you think, Cagesiders? Has Ferruggia effectively ended the rumors around Punk’s transformation? Let us know in the comments.
