For every peak there is a valley, and the past week was absolutely a valley for the previous week’s peak. With only two wins, the Guardians owe us something to be positive about.
Velazquez Stays Hot
Since being promoted to Triple-A Columbus on May 20th, outfielder Ralphy Velazquez has been continually finding success at the plate. This week, he had a five-game hit streak including two doubles. He’s currently hitting .302/.396/.520 between both Columbus and Double-A Akron. While he’s gone hitless in his last two games,
he still reached base via a hit by pitch in Sunday’s game versus the Toledo Mud Hens.
Kelce Makes Big Investment
The Guardians announced on Wednesday that there will be a new minority owner. It will be none other than Cleveland’s own Travis Kelce. The three-time Super Bowl champion and soon-to-be husband of the biggest pop star in the world has made his Cleveland loyalty clear recently. He attended a Cavs game in their final series and is now an investor in the city’s Major League Baseball team. So if any Swifties would like to learn about the team, you’re in the right place.
Dion Finding Improvement
Will Dion made his Major League debut on Tuesday versus the Washington Nationals. While he had a rough debut and wasn’t able to turn it around in his second appearance, his third appearance was a complete 180. He threw two innings in Sunday’s finale versus the Boston Red Sox, and struck out three batters without giving up any runs. He chose to wear number 98 and his jersey and is the first player in team history to do so according to MLB.com reporter Tim Stebbins.
Social Media Spotlight
If you’re a frequent purveyor of Guardians Twitter, you know that Meg (@shuddupmeg) is the biggest Austin Hedges fan in the world. While she, sadly, was not able to attend the Austin Hedges jersey giveaway game on Saturday, she got a special message from the man himself thanks to card-collector-extraordinaire Mikayla Baer (@mikbaer).
