In this special YouTube members episode of The Real Forno Show, host Tyler Forness and producer Dave Stefano fielded direct questions from Vikings fans on the 2026 season outlook, the brewing quarterback competition, and life heading into training camp.
Forness and Stefano go deep on the 2026 Vikings season outlook, breaking down who wins the QB1 job, what happens to the loser, and what new GM Nolan Teasley means for the roster’s future. Joined by longtime fan and paid member Bigs, this episode delivers
unfiltered analysis, sharp NFL analytics, and real fan conversation.
Forness welcomed paid members for an old-school radio call-in style discussion. With rookies reporting July 26 and veterans July 28, the conversation quickly turned to roster battles under new GM Nolan Teasley. Forness was blunt on the QB room: “I’m of the belief that whoever does not win the quarterback job… I don’t expect both J.J. McCarthy and Kyler Murray to be on the opening day roster. I think one of them will be gone.”
Key Points:
- Training Camp Timing: Rookies report July 26, veterans July 28 — a late start Forness welcomed.
- QB Competition & Trades: Forness sees Kyler Murray as the heavy favorite. “The Vegas implied odds are that Kyler Murray’s about 90% favorite to win the job… General managers around the league… believe Kyler Murray is gonna win the job. If J.J. McCarthy wins the job, it’s a coup.” He added that the loser will likely push for a trade: “If Kyler Murray does lose the job, he’s going to ask for a trade… I wouldn’t blame either quarterback for asking out.”
- National Insider Posturing: Forness views much of the McCarthy praise as trade value building: “The bigger picture that I believe they’re trying to paint is that a lot of this J.J. McCarthy positivity talk is more about posturing for the future as far as moving him for capital.”
- Sack Accountability: Discussing offensive line and QB responsibility, Forness noted, “Of the Vikings’ 60 sacks, I think only 26 of them were accredited to offensive linemen, four of them were accredited to running backs or tight ends, the other 30 were attributed to the quarterbacks.”
- Time to Throw Insights: On McCarthy specifically: “When he was kept clean… time to throw was 2.63 seconds… Under pressure, 39.5% of his dropbacks, time to throw was 3.6 seconds.” He contrasted this with poise examples like Josh Allen.
- Overrated Players: Forness suggested Demond Claiborne currently and Randall Cunningham’s 1998 season historically. On Robert Smith: “We gloss over the injuries.”
- Front Office & Roster: On Teasley vs. Flores: “At the end of the day, the buck stops with Teasley… Teasley will just be like, ‘Hey, myself and my staff fully believe in this guy… now we want you to go coach him up.’”
- Defensive Backfield: “You don’t need to have someone who is this elite-type player… everything’s predicated on getting pressure on the quarterback.”
