Delusion is a powerful thing.
Former two-time Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight title challenger Dominick Reyes returned to the win column at UFC 327, defeating Johnny Walker via split decision on the main card this past weekend (Sat., April 11, 2026) inside Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.
The result kept Reyes firmly in the Top 10.
The performance, however, left a lot to be desired.
In a matchup billed as a guaranteed firefight between two knockout artists, Reyes and Walker instead
delivered a slow, tentative bout that sucked the energy out of the arena — especially coming right after Cub Swanson’s emotional retirement fight (watch highlights).
Safe to say, neither man “went out on their shield” as promised.
Still, Reyes doesn’t see the issue.
“I did expect him to be a little more aggressive, but this is super f—king dangerous game, man,” Reyes said during his post-fight press conference. “Anything he did, I expected. I wasn’t caught off guard… it was a good technical fight.”
Reyes explained that Walker’s lack of forward pressure forced him to adjust on the fly.
“It was on the fly, and I was making adjustments for my coaches,” Reyes added. “The game plan got switched up because I expected him to step into range more. I had to force the action and wobble him a few times. I don’t think I overgameplanned or anything like that. I was fighting a guy who was getting in, not going — and it’s difficult to fight like that.”
Reyes also pointed to the inherent risks of opening up too much — especially given his recent health history.
“He’s super dangerous. If I get crazy, I could run into something,” Reyes added. “I just had a concussion six months ago — I probably shouldn’t have taken the fight, but I did. I fought a very technical, clean fight and dominated all three rounds.”
And while fans may have wanted chaos, Reyes had other priorities.
“You know, being Dominick Reyes, people expect me to go all crazy — go for the knockout or get knocked out, but I have a son and I have to come home with two checks more than anything,” Reyes added. “Getting two checks means more than being entertaining.”
At this stage of his career, that mindset is understandable.
Even if the fight sucked.
