Ryan Garcia scored what turned out to be a pretty easy win over Conor Benn tonight via second round TKO, and in his post-fight interview, it appeared that the “worship music” he’d listened to pre-fight hadn’t made him feel entirely as peaceful as he claimed.
Garcia made aggressive call-outs toward fellow welterweight titleholders Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney after his victory.
He specifically called Lopez into the ring, shouting, “Teofimo, get that ass up here! Where you at? Unified time, where you at? Where you at,
Teofimo?”
As Lopez, who recently won the WBA welterweight title, tried to get to the ring, he was held back by security. Unlike earlier in the night, when the same security crew eventually let David Benavidez pass to go respectfully agree to a fight with Jai Opetaia, Teofimo was never allowed to pass.
“You wanna get crazy, we can get crazy,” Garcia shouted from the ring. “I’ll beat your ass right now!”
When asked about what his full plans are at 147, Garcia then turned his attention to another rival in attendance, Haney, who did not try to get into the ring, but maybe just didn’t have the time to before the interview was over.
His message was clear: “We gotta clear this shit out. Hopefully we get to beat Devin Haney’s ass again for undisputed. Fuck the Haneys!”
Garcia defeated Haney in 2024, before the result was overturned following Garcia’s failed post-fight drug test. Haney has since won the WBO welterweight title, while Garcia has the WBC belt.
