Ilia Topuria had some things to say following the main event of UFC 324.
Justin Gaethje captured the interim lightweight title to cap off Saturday’s card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas with a dominant win over Paddy Pimblett, likely earning himself a date to face Topuria in a unification bout later this year. Topuria was a massive piece of the story heading into the promotion’s first event of the Paramount era, and shortly after Gaethje’s win, “El Matador” gave his thoughts on Pimblett’s showing,
while sending a message to the new interim champ in the process.
“Little sausage, the only thing you had to do was beat a 38-year-old guy,” Topuria said on Twitter. “You just lost the biggest paycheck of your life. You were going to get rich if you won.
“Justin, all I can say is congratulations… and I’d like to tell you to get ready, but you’re screwed no matter what.”
Topuria became the lightweight champion this past June with a sensational first-round knockout of Charles Oliveira in the main event of UFC 317. Topuria made the choice to take time off while dealing with a separation from his wife, which led to the UFC booking the interim title fight. The two-division champ has teased a return to action as soon as April, while Gaethje is hopeful to compete on the upcoming UFC White House card in June.
